Please join us on our journey to bring our beloved hamlet of St. James full circle to what it once was in the early 1900’s. We were a bustling community alive with actors and other dignitaries who lived in St. James year-round or summered here when the New York City theatres were dark. We were the “go to place.” At one time, there were three theatres in St. James – and one of them is still standing today at 176 Second Street. Celebrate St. James Past-Present-Future will bring it back to life – with your help! From our organization’s humble beginnings in 2017, with a mission to celebrate our rich history and revitalize the economy through the cultural arts, we have achieved many amazing things – among them the designation of historic Lake Avenue as a Cultural and Arts District and the design and creation of soon to be completed Celebrate Park for all to enjoy. Now we are embarking on our next mission – the purchase and renovation of the former St. James Calderone Theatre. It will become The St. James Cultural Arts Community Center with a small theater and outdoor plaza, right here in the heart of our town. The Center will bring its audiences live performances, historic recreations and classic films, art and music classes, a recording studio, and a meeting place for community groups.

It will be a place of intergenerational enrichment. A century ago, the Roaring (19)20’s brought our nation a renewed sense of energy and excitement after suffering a devastating pandemic. History is now repeating itself and, with your support and generosity, the Celebrate St. James Save the Theatre Roaring 20’s Gala will not only be a huge financial success, but a tribute to our town’s legacy. The St. James Cultural Arts Community Center will help return St. James to the “walking” and “visiting” and charming town it once was, while enjoying the sense of community of which St. James has always been so proud!
